  • Grampian Construction Training Group has experienced a successful 2014. In its second year of independence the group has achieved 1362 man days training against a target of 1000. The group has increased its membership within 2014 from 49 to 57 companies and continues to go from strength to strength.

GCT Ltd has delivered training over the following areas:- Health and Safety, Apprenticeships, Craft Trades/Operatives, Management and Supervisory and On-Site Assessment. Courses in 2014 included:- Cskills Site Safety Management Training, Cskills CSCS Health & Safety Awareness, IPAF MEWPS, PASMA Mobile Towers, Temporary Works Co-ordinator, Confined Spaced, Scaffold Appreciation & Inspection, Working at Height and Construction Ambassadors to name a few.

Apprenticeship numbers recruited within member companies for 2014 also remained at a good level. Craft and Operative Apprenticeship intake was 42 and overall the number of apprentices was 68. Grampian as an area has been fortunate to have experienced a stable economic market in 2014. The challenge for 2015 in Grampian, will be that the current economic impact of the oil industry will in turn affect the Construction industry and will in turn have a downturn in the number of contracts. Members are committed in 2015 to continue to support apprenticeships and attract new recruits to the Construction Industry.

Funding for 2014 was increased by way of a £25,000 additional CITB grant which the group utilised in order to subside each course offered – this ensures that all members utilising training are receiving financial subsidy.

Looking forward to 2015, GCT Ltd are committed to sustaining our high numbers of man days training and will continue to liaise with members to gauge what other/new training requirements are required. The Group have also been fortunate to receive a further £25,000 additional CITB Grant for 2015 which again will be shared between members booking training by way of subsidy. This coupled with increasing our membership and continuing to foster closer industry/education links within the industry should hopefully ensure 2015 is as successful as 2014
